Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Urologist, Deoghar-based Diabetes Clinic, said that overactive bladder can be a common reason for frequent urination. In this, the muscles of the bladder start contracting excessively, due to which there is a strong desire to urinate even when the bladder is not full. Apart from this, urine infection, irritation caused by tea, coffee or alcohol, uncontrolled blood sugar, increased sensitivity of bladder due to stress or drinking too much water in a very short time can also be the reason. When a person drinks too much water at once, the kidneys rapidly filter out excess water, causing frequent urination. This problem is often reduced by drinking water at short intervals throughout the day.
When can there be a danger signal?
If frequent urination is accompanied by burning sensation, pain, blood in urine, discomfort in the lower abdomen, fever, sudden strong urination or having to get up repeatedly at night to go to the toilet, then one should immediately contact the doctor. These symptoms can indicate infection, inflammation in the bladder, prostate problems in men or metabolic diseases like diabetes. Apart from this, bladder capacity and control may change with increasing age. At the same time, stress and anxiety also make the bladder more sensitive, due to which one feels a strong urge to urinate again and again even when less urine is produced.
What to do to get relief?
First of all, see how much and how fast you are drinking water. Reduce bladder irritating beverages like tea, coffee and cold drinks. Make it a habit to urinate on time and avoid going to the toilet “just in case”. Pelvic floor exercises can also be helpful in improving bladder control.
