Relief news has emerged for thousands of youth preparing for the Civil Services Examination in Jharkhand. The maximum age limit for applying for the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has been increased by four years. State Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave information about this important decision during the budget session of Jharkhand Assembly. This step of the government has provided great relief to those candidates who were left out of the examination due to age limit.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren informed the House about this decision on Saturday, the fourth day of the budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly. He informed that the date of calculation of age limit for the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination of JPSC has been changed. Earlier this date was fixed as August 1, 2026, but now it has been changed to August 2022. The direct benefit of this will be that the candidates will effectively get an additional relaxation of four years.
What was the situation before?
When the notification for the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination 2025 was issued by JPSC, the date of calculation of age was kept as 1 August 2026. Due to this, a large number of candidates had crossed the maximum age limit and would have been deprived of applying. This issue had remained a topic of discussion among the candidates and public representatives for a long time.
Why did the age limit controversy arise?
Since Civil Services Examination is not conducted regularly in Jharkhand, candidates were waiting for the examination for many years. Due to this delay many candidates crossed the age limit. Such candidates said that there is no fault of theirs, yet they are not able to appear in the examination. For this reason, candidates were continuously demanding relaxation in age limit from the government.
Demand echoed in the House
For the last two days, many MLAs had raised this issue loudly in the Assembly. The MLAs said that keeping in mind the future of the youth, the government should give relaxation in the age limit. At the same time, there was a demand from the candidates to give relaxation of up to eight years, so that more and more candidates can appear in the examination.
what was going on at the government level
According to official sources, the State Personnel and Administrative Department had earlier prepared a proposal for maximum age relaxation of three years and sent it to the Cabinet. But after the announcement of the Chief Minister, the cutoff year has now been fixed at 2022. It is clear from this that the government has taken a step forward in the interest of the candidates and decided to give relief of four years.
The matter reached the High Court
Amid the ongoing controversy regarding the age limit, some candidates had also approached the High Court. He definitely got partial relief from there, but the entire problem could not be solved. Now after the new announcement of the government, this controversy is expected to end.
