Doctors Health In India: The doctors who take care of our health are themselves very ill, this study revealed shocking

Hypertension Among Indian Doctors: The doctors who work day and night to save people’s health are now themselves in the grip of diseases. A recent study conducted on doctors across the country has revealed a picture of their deteriorating health, which has forced the medical world to think. According to this report, almost every second doctor involved in the research is suffering from high blood pressure, while about a quarter of the doctors are suffering from diabetes. This study was conducted between March and June 2025, in which 265 doctors participated. Doctors from states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar and Gujarat were included in the survey.

What came out in the research?

This research published in the Journal of Mid Health has made many revelations. Investigation revealed that 47.9 percent doctors’ BP was above normal level. The matter of concern is that only 63 percent of these people are able to keep it under control. Apart from this, 21.5 percent doctors were found to be suffering from thyroid, 43 percent had increased bad cholesterol and 11.7 percent were found to be suffering from heart related disease. This research was led by Dr. Prabhat Aggarwal, Professor of Medicine, SN Medical College, Agra. Kolkata’s School of Tropical Medicine and Dhanbad-based Diabetes and Heart Research Center also played an important role in the study. Many experienced doctors and experts were associated with this research.

What is causing the problem?

Experts believe that continuous night duty, excessive work pressure, mental stress, not being able to eat on time and lack of sleep are the major reasons for deteriorating health of doctors. Doctors working in both government and private sectors are not untouched by this danger. The report has advised the government to make regular health checkups, workplace wellness plans and mental health monitoring mandatory for doctors. The researcher has clearly said that if the doctors remain unwell then it will affect the health services of the country. Experts associated with the research say, “This is not just a personal problem, but a serious issue related to health security. If the health of doctors weakens, the entire system will be affected.”

Important figures of the report

  • High blood pressure: 127 doctors (47.9 percent)
  • Diabetes: 61 doctors (23 percent)
  • Thyroid problem: 57 doctors (21.5 percent)
