Smartphone Waterproofing: In today’s era, smartphone has become an important part of our everyday life. In such a situation, if the phone suddenly falls into water, it is natural for the heartbeat to increase. But now technology has advanced so much that many smartphones can remain safe even after falling in water. After all, how is this possible? Let us know the real technology behind it.
What is IP rating?
Waterproof or water-resistant smartphones often have ratings like IP67 or IP68 written on them. IP means Ingress Protection i.e. protection from external elements. In this, the first number indicates protection from dust and the second number indicates protection from water. For example, a phone with IP68 rating can work even after being immersed in water for a limited period of time. However, this does not mean that it is safe to deliberately put the phone in water.
How is the phone protected from inside?
To protect the smartphone from water, special sealing technology is used inside it. Rubber gaskets and silicone seals are placed on the joints, buttons and ports of the phone so that water cannot enter inside. Apart from this, a special nano-coating is done on the motherboard which protects the circuit from moisture.
Micro-mesh or water-repellent material is also applied in the parts of the speaker and microphone so that the sound can go out but water does not reach inside. This is the reason why the phone often works normally even in the rain.
Is the phone completely waterproof?
Often people consider water-resistant and waterproof to be the same, whereas there is a difference between the two. Most smartphones are not completely waterproof but remain protected from water only for a limited time and depth. Salt water, water mixed with soap or chlorine water from swimming pool can damage the phone. Apart from this, the sealing of the phone can also become weak over time, especially if the phone has been dropped or has been repaired.
What to do if you fall into water?
If your phone falls in water, immediately take it out and switch it off. Do not make the mistake of shaking it or putting it on charge. Wipe it with a dry cloth and let it dry in natural air. If necessary, it is better to get it checked from a service center.
Technology may have made smartphones safe from water to a great extent, but caution is the best protection. Therefore, rely on waterproofing but do not be careless.
