Summer season has arrived and now people have started missing their ACs. People get their AC serviced in February-March so that they can get some relief from the heat and humidity from April to September-October. If you are also getting your AC serviced and immediately after the service, if the technician tells you that the AC is leaking or running out of gas, then you should not blindly believe him. By some signs, you can find out for yourself whether the gas in your AC has run out or whether the technician is trying to cheat you to line his pockets.
You will get an idea from cooling
If the AC is cooling the room then it means that there is no shortage of gas in it. When the gas runs out, the AC is unable to provide cooling, but if the AC is providing cooling as per its capacity then there is no need to fill gas in it.
check coil
You can check the coil to find out whether the AC is running out of gas. If ice is accumulating on the AC after turning it on, it shows that the AC has run out of gas. If ice is not accumulating on it then you do not need to refill the gas.
Oil will freeze on the pipe of the outer unit
If the technician says that the AC gas has leaked then check the pipe of the outer unit. Due to gas leakage, something sticky like oil will accumulate on it. If oil has accumulated somewhere on the pipe, then understand that the gas has leaked and needs to be refilled.
Will be known through bubble test also
If the technician keeps saying that gas has leaked, then you can find out through the bubble test. Ask the technician to do a bubble test at the gas leak area. You can also do this yourself with soap or surf solution. If the pipe is leaking from somewhere then bubbles will arise at that place. If bubbles are not rising from anywhere then there is no leakage in the pipe.
