These cameras are often installed in places where no one would easily suspect, such as inside smoke detectors, chargers, alarm clocks, air purifiers or TV boxes.
Such incidents are not only scary but can also become a big threat to your privacy. Therefore, it is very important to take some caution as soon as you reach the hotel room.
Do this small check as soon as you reach the room
As soon as many people enter the hotel, they keep their luggage and start resting directly, but before doing so, it is better to check the room carefully. Pay special attention to the electronic equipment present in the room. If something seems unusual or a device seems out of place, check it carefully. What is Fing App and how does it work?
Fing is a mobile app that scans the Wi-Fi networks connected to your phone. It tells which devices are connected to that network. People usually use this app to monitor their home’s smart devices or network. This app is available on both Android and iPhone.
When you are connected to the hotel Wi-Fi, when you scan the network with the Fing app, you will see all the devices connected there like mobile, laptop, smart TV, router and if present, IP cameras too.
How Fing helps in detecting hidden cameras
This app will not directly tell in which corner of the room the camera is hidden but it will definitely show which devices are connected to the network. For this you just have to do this:
- First of all connect to the hotel Wi-Fi.
- After this open Fing app and start network scan.
- Within a few seconds you will see the complete list of connected devices.
If IP Camera, Security Camera or any such device appears in the list which you are not able to identify, then it can be a reason for suspicion. In such a situation, you can talk to the hotel staff immediately. However, this method works only when the camera is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
You can check like this even without an app
It is not necessary to depend only on the app. There are also some easy ways by which you can check the room. First look at places where cameras are usually hidden such as smoke detectors, power sockets, bathroom vents or wall corners. Switch off the room lights and light the mobile torch. Many times the small lens of the camera shines when light falls on it and becomes visible. Apart from this, the room can also be scanned by opening the phone’s camera. The infrared light of many night-vision cameras appears as small glowing dots on the camera. If any mirror in the room looks suspicious, then also check whether it is a two-way mirror.
