Should You Drink Soda for Acidity: Many people suffer from acidity and gas problems after eating food. In such situations, people often drink cold drinks or soda to get immediate relief. Cold and aerated drinks may make you feel lighter for a few minutes, but does it really cure acidity or is it just an illusion? Let us tell you what experts say about this and how it works.
may cause damage
Experts say that cold drinks contain a lot of sugar and carbon dioxide. Apart from this, acids, artificial flavors and many types of chemicals are added to them. All these things can be harmful for the stomach and liver. People think that drinking aerated drinks causes burping and makes the stomach lighter, but this is not the real cure.
According to doctors, cold drink does not eliminate acidity or gas. On the contrary, the excess sugar and acid present in them can further irritate the digestive system, which can increase the secretion of acid in the stomach. If a person drinks such drinks regularly for a long time, stomach problems may worsen. This also increases the risk of fatty liver and can prove to be more harmful for diabetic patients.
What do experts say?
Regarding this, Dr. Jason P Sharma had shared a video on social media, in which he said, “Nowadays, a common thing is seen that when acidity occurs after eating, people drink cold drinks. They think that this will cure the acidity. But it contains carbon dioxide, when we drink it, we feel like a belch and we think that the acidity is cured. He further said that nothing like this happens, cold drink is the cure for acidity. No, but there is a reason.
What to do to get relief from acidity?
Experts recommend adopting natural and mild options. Coconut water cools the stomach and can help in reducing acidity. Buttermilk improves digestion and reduces gas problems. Fennel or cumin water is also traditionally considered beneficial for the stomach. Mint or basil tea can provide relief to the stomach. Some people also get relief from milk, although it can affect every person differently, just changing the drink is not enough, it is important to pay attention to the eating habits also. Eating too much spicy and fried food can increase acidity. Instead of eating quickly, eating slowly and chewing food well helps in digestion. Eating light food at short intervals can also be beneficial.
